As a Veteran, you might experience difficult life events or challenges after leaving the military. We’re here to help no matter how big or small the problem may be. VA has resources to address the unique stressors and experiences that Veterans may face — and we’re just a click, call, text, or chat away.
Self Assessments
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Screening (PCL)
If you’ve experienced any type of trauma — whether as a civilian or in the military — this screening will help you see whether you might have symptoms related to PTSD. This short list of anonymous questions can help you determine whether you need to speak to a professional for further assessment and information.
Substance Abuse Screening (ASSIST)
This brief, anonymous screening will ask about your experience with alcohol, tobacco products, and other drugs across your lifetime and in the past three months. The results will provide feedback on your potential health risks and other problems related to these substances, and they will help connect you with useful resources for support.
Veterans Crisis Line Self-Check Quiz
You can take a confidential Veterans Crisis Line self-check quiz to better understand what you’re going through, learn whether it may be a good idea to seek professional help, and see how you might benefit from VA or community-based services. Your anonymous answers to a brief list of questions will be reviewed by an experienced counselor who will then send you a personal response through a secure website. The counselor will also provide you with resources and options for further follow-up.
